Forest school week 4 & cooking baked potatoes on the outdoor fire

31st October 2018Jodie Wilkinson

Week 4 Forest School and cooking baked potatoes on the fire outdoors.

As Halloween approaches the children were able to take part in a spooky Halloween trail at the woods this week.  Mrs Brown had previously visited the woods and placed spooky pictures around and from trees for the children to find.  Each child had to make a mark on their own tally chart when they matched a picture.  The children had a lovely time and are all very excited for Halloween.

Forest School – Week 3

17th October 2018Jodie Wilkinson

Forest School week 3

This week at forest school we looked for bugs and mini beasts.   We had a piece of  camouflage material and shook trees and branches to see what fell from the branches.  We used magnifying glasses and mini beast jars to take a closer look.  We saw lots of lovely coloured leaves as well as a tiny spider, a woodlouse and a centipede.  Following on from the stormy weather at the weekend we found a tree that had fallen down, it turned out  be a fantastic climbing tree!

Forest school – Week 2

10th October 2018Jodie Wilkinson

Week 2  – Forest School

This week we made our very own camp at forest school, we used lots of new equipment and tools such as tent pegs, string and a mallet.  We then made a trail around the forest making marks on the trees with special ‘forest pencils’ (Charcoal) so we knew how to find our way back to camp.

We found lots of interesting things around the forest even ‘claw’ marks on a tree! As well as the mud monsters home! Gladly he was not home and did not steal any of the children’s wellies today.   Some of the children thought there was a tiger, lion or a bear around the woods! Thankfully not!

After seeing all the exciting things Green group had got up to at Forest school, the afternoon children gathered around the fire pit, We safely made a fire and enjoyed some delicious popcorn!

Learning in the Woods

25th May 2018M Hamilton

All of the children who attend our nursery have the opportunity to attend a program of woodland experiences over a period of five weeks. It offers children the chance to explore the natural world through first experiences of discovery and challenge.

Regular visits help children  develop personal  and social skills and supports  emotional well-being and connection with nature.

We aim to promote resilience, confident, independent and creative learners.

Summer 2018, our first visit to the woods and the children were excited to follow secret paths leading to who knows where?  We left a trail to help us find our way back!  We made a forest crown with all the treasure we found growing on the trees and bushes.  Even though we were very quiet we did not find a fairy .
