What a fun filled day we had at our Father’s Day Event!

Blue group enjoyed the sunshine this week and had a messy play day in the garden.
We had water, jelly, shaving foam, bubbles, gloop and the water hose to squirt all of our friends.
It was great to explore the different textures using our hands, feet and body.
We all got very wet, it was lots of fun!

This week, the children have been learning about rockets and space stations!
The children have enjoyed using the blocks to build their own rockets and talk about which planet they are going to visit.
They wanted to go to the moon so they could see the Earth like an astronaut!

Following some of the children’s interests, Blue group made an ice cream shop outside.
We made different coloured cloud dough to use as ice cream. We had spoons and scoops, bowls, ice cream cones, sprinkles and ice cream menus so we could tell our friends what ice cream we would like.
We also used the till so we could take turns of being the ice cream shop keeper. We had lots of fun!

This week we have been looking at the solar system, space travel and aliens.
The story of the week is:’Aliens Love Underpants’ which has been linked below

This week as part of space week the children have been busy making rock cakes and rocket fruit kebabs. We have explored lots of different ingredients and discussed what we needed to make a ‘cake’. The children realised that making ‘rock cakes’ was very different to making a cupcake this was a very messy job with extremely sloppy mixture.
There was lots of discussion around texture and appearance, some fantastic vocabulary such as sticky, sloppy, slimy as well as ‘Yak I don’t like it on my hands.’
The rock buns filled the nursery with such a delicious smell, we hope they were as delicious as they looked.
Fruit kebabs was far less messy, the children discussed cutting fruit in half to make it smaller, making a pattern and exploring the shape triangle which is fantastic for mathematical development. Children were asked to put a strawberry followed by a marshmallow on a kebab stick then a piece of melon cut into a triangle for the rocket flames. The kebabs looked delicious and the children certainly enjoyed them for snack.

This week we have been exploring the impact plastic pollution has on our oceans and wildlife. The children have enjoyed reading ‘Somebody Swallowed Stanley’ and making ‘Stanley’ kites Please follow the link below to listen to the story at home.

The children have been baking scones (for the Queen) , as part of our jubilee celebrations the children have been discussing ‘Afternoon Tea’ and how the Queen still has afternoon tea each day with her favourite ‘jam penny’ sandwiches and cream scones.
The children combined the ingredients to each have a piece of dough, some of the children added dried fruit to their dough and then chose the size cutter they wanted. I hope the scones taste as delicious as they looked and the ‘Queen’ enjoys them.

Last week some of our fantastic nursery staff attended a celebration event to receive silver level accreditation for Better Health at Work.

Red group have enjoyed making our snack on the fire pit this morning!
We have been revisiting our safety rules when around the fire pit.
We then used the fire to toast our bread.
The children thought it was delicious!
